Oh god. I just made Indian Rice Pudding by Alton Brown. Holy Jesus, is it good! The only complaint is that I put in too much cardamom. I added a hint more than called for and it's a bit too cardamom-y.

Still, though, it's amazing (and really easy). I recommend, especially if you have some left over rice of which you need to get rid.

To leave you with the awe of Alton, here are 30 things you need to know about Alton: )

List was stolen from [livejournal.com profile] supermom20, which she posted way back when, but I thought needed to be posted on my own LJ.

Now, off to TWW (yet again).

OMG!

Do you know what I just realized? I don't have any AB icons! *diez* Must remedy that. *does a quick search for an AB icon* There, that's better. I saw some really cute ones, but they were too large. *sigh* If any of my wonderful flistians would like to make me (or everyone) some Alton Brown icons, I'd be grateful to you forever! *snuggles*

The whole reason for this post is that I just noticed [livejournal.com profile] hollydb changed the text of the music feature from something alongs the lines of "that music feature I never use" to "alton is listening to:" How cool is that? She really does love me!

In other news, finally took my bear into the seamstress to get her stitched up. She'll be ready to take home tomorrow or Friday. Yay!!

Seasons drinkings greetings! I am full of Christmas spirits this year. From a pre-cooking drink (Bombay Sapphire) to dinner sparkling wine with a during-cooking drink of eggnog with plenty of Bourbon.

BTW: Alton Brown's eggnog recipe? Total win. OMG! So good. Amazing how much better it is from store-bought. Speaking of things that are better homemade than store-bought: the homemade marshmallows I made (also Alton's recipe) are delish. Too bad they're not quite set yet and I can't take them out and gorge on them. Also, must save three whole cups for tomorrow's ambrosia salad. *pout*

Had Christmas Eve dinner this year as we're going to a friend of Mum's for T-bone steaks. Yum!!! Tonight's dinner was blissfully simple for us. Ham, hog rotten* potatoes, green beans, and relish tray. Simple but good, so that's all that counts.

Must go set up treats for tonight and make sure everything's all set for Santa to come. He comes to the best kids first, so he always comes early Xmas Eve.

*hog rotten is my family's way of say au gratin.

OMG YUM!

Went to the salon today to get a manicure and haircut. Total splurge, but well worth it.

I feel like utter shite, no clue why, but still I cooked. I cooked this amazing lamb chop dinner w/ a raspberry-port sauce...only I forgot the raspberries. Oops? Still wonderful.

The piece de resistance? Cocoa brownies from Alton Brown. Holy fuck. They're knock-your-socks-off good. I don't like homemade chocolate baked goods. They're always too much flour, not enough chocolate. Not so with these brownies. 1.25 cups cocoa powder and 0.5 cup flour. Oh yeah. Plus? He uses butter instead of oil. They're to die for...well, not die, 'cos then you couldn't enjoy, but at least to kill for (no, I don't mean literally).

Go, try them. They're easy and so worth the effort. I can't wait 'till I feel better so I can indulge in them fully.

Good god it's fricking freezing out there! According to the weather page, it's 5* but feels like -6* (-15* and -21* Celsius, respectively). No wonder my nostrils freeze together and my mittens crinkle when I'm outside.

The good new is the salmon I had last night and left in the car was perfectly frozen tonight when I took it out to reheat it.

I shopped so much today. Mostly for yours truly. I got Alt♥n Br♥wn's cookbook, a whole bunch of build-a-bear stuff (to the tune of $45!!), and? A NEW MATTRESS! *said in the voice of rod roddy* It's really nice. It's not a pillow top, but it's still a very comfortable, good quality, firmish mattress. I love it. That's my santa gift. :) Of course, I got new flannel sheets to go w/ my new mattress. =)

I really need an alpine. Mmm...liquor...

I found out the hard way that the proper blossoming of your gelatin is essential in the production of making jellies. One must blossom all gelatin, not just half of it or one ends up w/ nasty chunks throughout one's jellies. I just hope I didn't fuck it up beyond repair. I made over a quarter cup zest for my jellies. That's a shitload of work to toss out because my jellies didn't set up proper-like. I'm even okay with chunks, just as long as it's edible.

However, I shan't be giving this batch away, lol. At least I know what to do for next time. I even cooked the sugar to the proper temp and everything. And when I poured the sugar goo into the gelatin goo, i had this solidified rock of...goo. I thought I'd fucked it up there, but I was able to melt down the sugar. Just not all the gelatin.

Thank god I'm not a perfectionist in the kitchen! Also thank god my mum's no longer a perfectionist and is only happy I tried something not that it comes out perfectly.

Also, re-watched This is Spinal Tap. So damn funny. I'd forgotten just how hilarious it is. God. One of the best movies of our time. Am also re-watching Dead Like Me and have The Animaniacs and The West Wing in my queue. TWW is 'cos [livejournal.com profile] hollydb told me to. She did a little victory dance and everything when I told her I was renting it.

Edit: Recipe is Acid Jellies by Alton Brown.

Update: Jellies are finished. I didn't fuck them up! However...due to the inherent nature of gelatin and the fact that I skimped on the zest, they completely sucked fluffy, dead bears. Yuck! So, unless you like the flavor/smell of gelatin, I do not recommend this. If you do make them, be sure to add ALL of the required zest, if not more.

P.S. gakked from [livejournal.com profile] dawnie1970. What is up w/ all these quizzes saying I'm a lush? I swear I'm really not!

You Are Blitzen

Always in good spirits, you're the reindeer who loves to party down with Santa.

Why You're Naughty: You're always blitzed on Christmas Eve, while flying!

Why You're Nice: You mix up a mean eggnog martini.
